Bible Basics

Thursdays at 6:30 PM

No matter your religious beliefs or spiritual background, if you want to know more about what the Bible teaches, then Bible Basics is for you. Over the course of 15 lessons we take a look at the fundamental teachings of Christianity and learn about a God who loves us and has saved us.  Listen, learn, and discuss how the Bible's teachings apply to your heart and life in an informal, relaxed setting.

Bible Basics Lessons

Lesson 1: God's Plan of Salvation

We discuss the Bible's answer to the question, "If you died tonight and stood before God in judgment, and he asked you why he should let you into heaven, what would you say?"

Lesson 2: God Created a Beautiful Universe

We explore the creation account and compare it with the Theory of Evolution.

Lesson 3: Why is the World So Crazy?

We talk about the fall into sin and the devastating effects it has had on this world and our lives.

Lesson 4: How Did Jesus Save the World?

In this lesson we discover how God saved the fallen world by sending his only Son, Jesus, and we dig more deeply into his plan of salvation discussed in Lesson One.

Lesson 5: The End Is Coming!

What happens to us after we die?  When will Judgment Day come and what will it be like?  We take a look at the Bible's answers to these and other important questions.

Lesson 6: Why Do We Need the Bible?

There are some things we know naturally. Other things must be revealed to us. This lesson discusses the Bible's origin and what it reveals to us about God.

Lesson 7: God Works through Holy Baptism

This lesson explains how God pours out his grace and blessing through water connected to his powerful promises. 

Lesson 8: God Works through Holy Communion

God gives some extraordinary blessings to his people through this sacred meal of forgiveness and fellowship instituted by Jesus the night before he died.

Lesson 9: God Gathers His Church

What is the church?  In this lesson we talk about the difference between the Holy Christian Church and individual Christian congregations and how God gathers people into his family of believers.

Lesson 10: A Conversation with God

In this lesson we talk about the divine conversation that takes place when we speak to God in prayer and listen to what he has to say to us in his Word.

Lesson 11: Our Spiritual Heartbeat

What is at the heart and core of our relationship with God? Repentance and forgiveness.

Lesson 12: Love the Lord Your God

We begin our look at the 10 Commandments and discuss how we can respond to God's amazing grace and mercy in Jesus by loving him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Lesson 13: Love Your Neighbor - Part 1

Our study of the 10 Commandments continues as we begin to discuss what Jesus meant when he said, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Lesson 14: Love Your Neighbor - Part 2

We finish our study of the Ten Commandments.

Lesson 15: Take Good Care

We wrap up Bible Basics by discussing what it means to be a faithful manager of the time, talents, and treasures that God has entrusted to us.

YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Pastor Chris Rathje

Pastor Rathje grew up in Saginaw, Michigan and has lived all over the country, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida.

Pastor Rathje joined the ministry team at Redeemer in January of 2021 and feels very blessed to be part of such a wonderful church and school family.

God has blessed Pastor Rathje and his wife Beth with three daughters: Kyah, Bryn, and Lily. Pastor Rathje enjoys watching and playing sports and hanging out with his family.
